I sat in my chair staring at the white space on my screen, trying to think of how I could put Beth & Joey into words for a few minutes... it can be incredibly difficult to put an incredible love into words... which is probably why there are so many poems written about love... it's hard to get it just right.

Beth & Joey are the example of what I think every person hopes to find in a partner... they have that love where you thought you just saw a glimpse of golden aura ebbing around them (think Amelie)... they are constantly laughing together, life turned up to 11.

Their whole day was incredibly moving, I didn't know if I would going to be able to keep it together at their ceremony and I felt beyond honoured to be the photographer there to capture it for them.  I am incredibly thankful to have been their wedding photographer, to witness their deep love for one another.  Beth & Joey have that old souls vibe, it feels like they've been together longer than their years, like they have always been each other's person, like they have the secret to life & love.

It was an amazing day to be a wedding photographer... I left their wedding feeling so full of joy that this is my work.  I'm so incredibly lucky to get to do what I love for my work, and to have couples like Beth & Joey "get it", and have complete trust in my nutty ideas.
I need to give a shoutout to Miss Abby who came up from the dirty South to shoot with me!  Looking through the set of images, I was unsure which ones I shot and which she shot... she killed it.  So anyone who is getting married in Atlanta, hit her up!

Kate & Ben were married in Punta Cana in the Dominican on February 2nd. While I wasn't their photographer for their destination wedding, I did get to spend 3 kick ass hours with them for the party they threw at Maumee Bay Resort.  I'm pretty sure I was laughing for 2 hours straight... the gail force winds made our attempt at outdoor photos a bit challenging, and highly amusing!  I had a great time with you both!!! :)

Raquel and Jason's wedding was my first one to kick off 2010 and I couldn't have been more thrilled.  Raquel has this gentle, sweet demeanor, truly one of the nicest people that I have ever known and after getting to know her mother (and father and sister) a bit, I know exactly where it comes from.  Deep roots of good people in that family.  Jason is definitely a guy's guy, energetic, intense, with a dash of sarcasm.  They definitely bring out the best in one another, and I'm sure their friends and family say they are more whole when together.

Your wedding photos are absolutely unreal! GORGEOUS! I love every picture but two of my favorites is the black and white picture of you and Jason, it has a vintage feel to it and the other picture is the two of you walking down the aisle after you got married :-) You guys make such an amazing couple! Love you!

I love the couples I was able to photograph in 2009... thank YOU for allowing me to do what I love!  Thank you for trusting me to capture the most intimate and special moments in your lives.  All of you are the ones who make me want to challenge and push myself further out of my comfort zone with every shoot.  It is truly impossible for me to express in words how lucky I feel to have the clients that I do, you're all amazing people.

Here's to 2010!!!

This year has been such a learning experience.  Figuring out workflow, taxes (ugghh), dealing with equipment issues... I have a feeling that every year I will learn through trials and tribulations... I will never sit back and say, YES! I now have it all figured out. Won't ever happen... and I don't want it to.

One huge thing I learned this year was the importance of THE album.  I have memories of looking at my parents wedding album, opening up the plastic covered white silk album, the corners adorned with metallic photo corners... one huge print per page.  It's funny how certain things stick with you.  That memory made me want to make sure everyone of my couples had a wedding album... and that's what happened... though they all may not have them yet, they will soon. :)

Midway through the season, I reworked my workflow.  The first thing my couples saw after their wedding wasn't a blog post or their gallery full of thumbnails, it was their album design.  I designed the biggest, baddest album without any limitations and presented their wedding to them in story form.  They saw their wedding for the first time how I visualized it while shooting.  This has been the biggest and most rewarding change to how I do my post work.

I design the album 100% in Adobe InDesign from scratch, no templates.  InDesign makes it extremely easy for me to design a modern album in hours.  I know the spacing is perfect and it works seamlessly with Photoshop & Bridge, so I can easily make sure the photos will look great in print.  All the spreads have white backgrounds, are completely clean and modern.  I don't want the album to look dated in 5 years, and by keeping it simple, about the photos and not the design, I know it will never look trendy.  Pro DPI (an environmentally conscious pro lab) does the printing of my spreads, sends them to me to so I can approve the color and quality before I ship them off to Renaissance for the production of the album.

If you'd like to look through a couple completed albums, take a peek at the albums page here.
