I travelled to Washington D.C. this past weekend for a shoot with Renita & Josh on the 4 year anniversary of meeting.  They met in D.C. 4 years ago at a stop on the Metro, and began courting through emails shortly there after, getting to know one another in probably the most honest form that a couple could start their relationship.  I love that story.  A few years after meeting, they found themselves living in the city where it all started.  Renita working for NPR, which I was stoked to hear, slightly starstruck, I am a NPR addict.  Josh works for the government, something to do with the USDA, maps, and produce... I apologize, it went over my head a bit, Phil had to re-explain it to me.  His job has given him a renewed love and appreciation for photography... he was super enthusiastic at the shoot :)

We had a fabulous time with you both!  Thank you for giving us the drive-by tour of your city :)

On a side note, Phil was my 2nd shooter for this engagement shoot as well (NYC being the last), and I am becoming more and more serious about him being my permanent sidekick at shoots... news to him, I'm sure ;)  Once again, a few of his shots have made the blog post... thanks babe! ;)

These are lovely - I particularly like the third and fourth ones. And different too - so nice to have these instead of some cheesy, posed in-studio shots. Well done!

ginny says:

Laura & Jason are both givers... she's a middle school teacher, he a fire fighter... both occupations take such a tremendous amount of drive to helping others, I admire them both a ton for taking on such life commitments.  That certainly says a lot about their personalities, and common way of life, who they are at the core.  Laura is the girl who constantly is laughing, always trying to get Jason to crack up.  Together it's a perfect compliment.
Their July wedding is in Cleveland at a gorgeous reception venue, so stoked!!

Jen Johns says:

"Awww that's my little brother"... I say as I am crying! These pics are so you guys love the b&w by the bundles sign and the last one in front of the rought iron railing/windows... they are all great but those are so Jason! :)

Amy Nelson-Spohn says:

So cute! Loved them! They turned out great! Miss you guys!

Great pics. Seriously good stuff. My favorites are "Drop Bundles Here" and the shot with both of you standing on the brick walkway and Laura is laughing. Compliments to the photographer and the subjects.

Couples who don't take themselves too seriously, are my favourite.  Sarah and Jason were so relaxed and down for whatever... despite Sarah's nerves at the start.  They ran around Ann Arbor barefoot, laid on cement.  They had complete trust in me, which is really all that I could ask for.  They are both incredibly sweet and adore one another... just look at the way Jason looks at Sarah!  Love, love ;) Their wedding will be at Mackinac Island this summer, and I am pumped to "go up North" as NW Ohioans/SE Michiganders call it :)

As parents, we couldn't ask for anything more than the love expressed in your eyes and the photos certainly capture and convey those sentiments. We love you both so much and cherish these moments in time!

In this business there is nothing better than referral clients... couples who have either been in a wedding or at a wedding that I've photographed prior to working with me themselves.  They know how I roll, what to expect, that I'm a goofball.  I get to hang out and shoot rad people that I've already gotten to know a bit... and I love familiar faces at weddings.
Tara is the sister of Steve & Keri who I photographed last year... I was extremely honored and stoked when Tara called me to tell me the news of her engagement!  I was even more pumped when Tara said she wanted me to come out to New York City for their engagement shoot!  "Uhhhh yes, of course I will!!!"  We laughed a ton, they showed us around the city, talked about their love of architecture, Tasti D-Lite and lives as New Yorkers.  I am so thankful to have been to the city for the first time under such badass circumstances and with such great people to show us around.  You two are amazing and I'm so very looking forward to your October wedding!!! :)

Steve Gary says:

You two look FANTASTIC together, both here and in real life! Mary really captured your personalities and interactions here: from Tara's soap opera hair to Ryan's lip lowering. Life in NY has never looked so relaxing!? Love, Steve

Tara says:

Ryan and I were very lucky that we didn't have to look too hard to find an outrageously talented photographer! I remember looking over and over again at Steve & Keri's amazing photos thinking "I would kill for pictures like this some day!" And thankfully, you were willing... You definitely captured us in our element and my heart is bursting. :) Thank you!!! T&R
p.s. Shout-out to Phil for being part of the great day, thanks!
