After a delicious lunch of Indian cuisine, we took a break while the couple changed for the afternoon half of their wedding day. They were married by a friend on the lawn of Geneva on the Lake overlooking Lake Erie. We had blue skies, aqua Lake Erie water and sunshine for their golden hour nuptials. It was beautiful to hear them exchange vows again and even though they had a ceremony several hours earlier, tears welled up in Nilin’s eyes when he saw Lizzy take the long walk down the beachfront-ish aisle.
Oh these two… they are so warm, they are funny, genuine and too adorable together in front of the camera. I wish them the absolute best as they start their next chapter in Colorado. I adore you two!
We all had goosebumps as Marissa buttoned the last button on the lace back of her stunning Pronovias wedding gown. It instantly set the tone of what our day was going to be. Beautifully intricate details, fashion forward attire and a day of love. The first look with her father was our second magical moment. I recall her sharing this special father/daughter relationship during their initial meeting. They work together and she is the youngest with two older brothers. It is something to treasure and one of my favourite parts of the day, seeing dad look at who used to be his tiny baby stand there looking like a bridal super model on her wedding day. As a parent myself, the moment brings me to watery eyes every time. Ugh! Even right now as I type this!
Marissa definitely chose the right gown to match the dramatic Holy Rosary Cathedral Church where they were married. You can’t do a subtle walk down the aisle in the massive holy building… I mean you could but why would you want to?! As she walked down the aisle we saw Sean’s eyes water, a bite on the lip and a smile that radiated. There was our third goosebumps moment. Whether its a first look in a hotel lobby or the walk down the aisle, that moment where the groom sees his bride for the first time is so special. When I am downloading photos the next day, its the first set of images I look through!
The reception at Toledo Country Club was elegant with European flair in the details. I loved the layout of the room they chose, with their sweetheart table set in the center back of the room. White Chiavari chairs, textured black linens and chandelier hanging anywhere one could hang in the dining room, helped continue the dramatic detailing from their cathedral wedding.
We commented that we could not recall a wedding reception where we saw our bride & groom together for almost every second. It was refreshing and romantic. It resulted in so many fun photos of Marissa and Sean together on the dance floor celebrating with their people.
Thank you Marissa & Sean for kicking off our wedding season with a spectacular love! It was a joy the whole day to be there. We left with an adrenaline rush and even though it was a long day, it was hard to fall asleep that night knowing we had thousands of amazing images to look through the next day. Also a tall thank you to Marissa’s father who was just the sweetest and stood in the middle of Collingwood Boulevard to prevent my turning in to roadkill so I could get what, we jokingly called, The Money Shot… yep, it was worth the risk…
Jaclynn + Justin embraced Maumee Bay’s beachy vibe opting for a laid back, relaxed wedding on he Lake Erie coastline. Their First Look was one of the most touching experiences to photograph. They were both overwhelmed with the joy of the day. Jaclynn could not have looked lovelier. The skies were blue and the lake certainly gave us her best that day… could have fooled us that it wasn’t a Caribbean destination. Such a delightful day. Enjoy their photos!
It ended up being a perfect August day… It wasn’t supposed to be. It was supposed to rain on their Maumee Bay outdoor wedding. I flipped through the hourly & Doppler up until we arrived at their venue just a bit east from Toledo Ohio. Denise + PJ are warm & generous, the type of people who make you feel like you’ve been friends for years when you first meet. I was over the moon when the blue skies & fluffy white clouds made themselves comfortable over Lake Erie. They deserved to have their epic wedding under a perfect summer sky.
On NYE, Whitney & Jon had an intimate ceremony with their immediate families and closest friends. When an adorably in love couple like Whitney & Jon tie the knot on New Years Eve it is a no brainer to enjoy the last day of the year with them! They kept their wedding day beautifully simple: quick ceremony reading their vows which melted everyone’s hearts, family portraits, TWO HOURS of creative portrait time (a dream!!!), and an amazing meal at Element 112
Whitney & Jon live downtown Toledo and Whitney has been crushing on the peeling pink paint on this (seemingly) abandoned building for quite some time. When we met over the summer, she knew she wanted wedding photos taken with it… I knew exactly which building she was referencing- I had my engagement photos taken there 11 years ago. My kind of couple! Digging the quirkiest building in the warehouse district. We popped over to a few other diverse locations to give them a variety of looks.
It was refreshing to have a 4 hour work day and know their wedding album will look fantastic and feel whole. Biggest congrats you two!!!Your good vibes & loving energy made me forget the champagne chilling.
Ceremony: Simply Married, ltd. Downtown Toledo Ohio
Dinner/Reception: Element 112 Sylvania, Ohio
Flowers: Beautiful Blooms by Jen Sylvania, Ohio
Catie & Bryan originally planned a big wedding downtown Toledo with over 150 guests. After Save the Dates went out, they decided that a big wedding just wasn’t them and it didn’t make sense to do it just because it was the norm. They emailed me with the change of plans and was down for a low key wedding to photograph instead.
While I know I wouldn’t be able to make a living at photographing 4 hour weddings full time, having one every once in awhile is refreshing and puts in to perspective the simplicity of what the day is really about.
Ceremony: Monclova Country Church at Maumee Valley Historical Society, Maumee Ohio
Cocktails + Brunch: NINE at Hensville, Toledo, Ohio
Catie’s Dress: David’s Bridal
Flowers: In Bloom
Katelyn & Alex celebrated their wedding day during the holidays and I tell you what, if you’re going to do a winter wedding, do so while the cities are still lit with string lights! While it was freeze raining during their creative portrait time, I was geeking out that we had wet roads reflecting the lights adorning Downtown Sylvania. It was dreamy.
