We are pretty lucky in Toledo to be a short drive from Chicago, a city where it seems many MWP couples live. They often relocate there after college and then come back to Toledo for their wedding. I made the drive to Chicago for Erica & Chris’s engagement session in November… and I was pretty nervous that those notorious Chicago chilly winds would make it a challenge for their engagement photos. Well Mother Nature was on our side!!! It was gorgeous and we were able to visit all of the places that the lovely couple had on their photo wishlist! Thank you Chris and Erica for inviting me out to your city, to meet your pup & all the fun facts that you’ve accumulated while living there!
The classic columns of the Toledo Museum of Art has made it the ‘go-to’ place for wedding photos for decades… and for this reason, I have avoided it. However, I am always up for challenging myself and wanted to look at this Toledo wonder with new eyes. Catie & Bryan woke up at the crack of dawn for their sunrise engagement session and we toured the lovely architecture of TMA. Toledo is lucky to host amazing buildings with incredible art inside and for us to be able to use them as a backdrop & sometimes foreground ;)
When I first met with Marissa & Sean they said they loved the juxtaposition of dressy attire & grungy Toledo, that their wedding colors were black & white. These were gold stars in my Mary Wyar Photography couples goal charts ;) (not a real thing.) After hearing more about their style & likes, I was looking forward to their engagement session even more. We chose the trendy Uptown District along Adams Street in Toledo which is the home to some of our city’s best murals. Their pup Joey (I wonder if he was named after Joe Guidice?) joined us around dusk and we enjoyed the last bits of summer daylight.
Their wedding next year will be at the iconic Rosary Cathedral and reception at a favourite of mine, Toledo Country Club… which is starting to feel like a second home.
Marissa + Sean, I am so very excited to be your photographer!!! I cannot wait for your big day next year!
Ohioans Kaitlin + Pat now call Chicago home. They love the city’s history, are architecture lovers and appreciate everything Chicago has to offer. I drove out there to capture this time in their lives in the city that is nurturing their love. I am so very looking forward to their Toledo wedding this fall! Enjoy the lovely Chicago Skyline, the super rad Pavilion at Lincoln Park Zoo designed by Studio Gang and the envious Lake Michigan who puts our Ohio Lake Erie to shame.
Kelly is a delight & they compliment each other perfectly! They wanted spring photos in a rustic location and Oak Openings is just perfect! We don’t have much greenery yet in NW Ohio so the majestic pines are a excellent location until we get some lush greenery in town!
Enjoy photos of these lovebirds! They haven’t quite decided if I will have the honor of photographing their big day… They were testing me out ;) Fingers crossed!!
I hadn’t been to Baltimore since 2003 when I followed a little punk band to a show in a warehouse… oh to be in your early 20s again ;) So I was pleasantly surprised when Maude and Zach invited me out & showed me around their city. There is an artist community that reminds me of what is happening in Toledo Old West End, but on a larger scale. We visited murals done by local artists, the museum, the Rawlings Conservatory where Zach volunteers and hung out at their early 1900s brick townhouse that has just as much character as the lovebirds themselves.
Quite a bit more photos than I typically share of engagement sessions… but I took a plane ride and hung out for a few hours, so why not?!
I adore how these two love and embrace color… very much inspired!
When I was talking to Erika and Nathan about doing engagement photos the week of Christmas, when they would both be back in Toledo, we didn’t think that El Niño would be giving us 60° temps and more of a fall look to their winter session. So while we didn’t exactly get a winter session NONE of us were complaining that we weren’t freezing our asses off.
So cheers to El Niño and cheers to Erika + Nathan who will be married in July at Registry Bistro.
When I received Amy’s initial email and she said they were planning their Michigan wedding from Maui, I instantly though: I wonder if I could get them to do their engagement portraits in Maui. Long story short, I got to escape the Ohio winter (with my husband) and hang out with the adorably in love couple on the incredible island of Maui that they have called home for 7ish years. Truth be told, these two would be photogenic in any city. They laugh easily with one another & are so in love… their Michigan wedding will be a marvelous celebration of all good things with a bit of a homage to their new Hawaiian roots. Mahalo to Amy + Matt!!! 5 months and counting until your nuptials!!!
You know I’m a sucker for modern architecture in Toledo. You know I love when couples are down for using said architecture in their engagement sessions :) Katie & Damien have officially been added to my 2014 wedding season just weeks before their wedding day. I LOVE when this happens! This lovely lovebirds live in Columbus, one of my fav Ohio cities, and have been together a whopping 7 years! Their wedding has been a long time in the making and I can’t wait to document their celebration in just a few days :)
