Jess and Mitch are Ohioans who relocated to Chicago, a city whose lake, baseball team and architecture they have grown quite fond of. I don’t blame them! I took the 4 hour drive out to Chicago and somehow convinced them that sunrise was THE only way to hit up the popular landmarks that they wanted to use as backdrops.
Millennium Park is in the heart of Chicago and meeting at the ever popular Cloud Gate aka The Bean at sunrise meant we had it to ourselves… which is eerie considering how popular of a selfie spot it is! Since my last visit to Cloud Gate was the year it was installed, about 10 years ago, the area has even more to offer.
I was thrilled to see a Frank Gehry designed pavilion and the BP Pedestrian Bridge which made me long for a drone. The architecture geek in me was even more excited that we could be on a Frank Gehry installation and see the Jeanne Gang’s Aqua Tower in the background!
I love that Jess and Mitch adore the architecture and landmarks enough to wake up early on a weekend. These two are so adorable… their laughs and smiles made all of our faces hurt by the time we wrapped.
Thank you for inviting me to photograph this time in your lives in the city you love. Your wedding next year is going to be amazing, can’t wait!
It never fails to impress me when a couple is up for a sunrise engagement session and arrives bright eyed and ready to cuddle & laugh. Jillian and Austin were quite impressive! Downtown Toledo at sunrise is so peaceful. The light is gorgeous, the streets are quite and its lovely to see our city as it wakes up.
The lovebirds will be married this summer at Toledo Country Club, and while we won’t be starting photos quite as early, I have a feeling I’ll still be impressed with their positive vibes.
Last week I travelled down to Cincinnati for Jenna & Zach’s engagement session. The drive down is long but getting out of Toledo for a session is quite refreshing.
Zach is keen on nature and has a sweet spot for the park near their home. While we are just starting to see signs of greenery up here in Toledo, Cincy already was looking like a pastel spring wonderland. After walking the trails at their fav park, we drove down to the Over the Rhine (OTR) area which was such a rad area with its murals, restaurants and boutique shops. Jenna is a fan of all the unique restaurants and enjoyed smelling the smells of cooking.
Thank you Jenna & Zach for inviting me down for your session! It was so lovely to explore a new part of Ohio, meet the lizards that live in your front yard and get to know you two a bit before the big day! You two are adorable and a joy to photograph!
Stephanie & Devin were the winners of our huge engagement session contest we promoted early winter. We didn’t meet them until the day of the session and I was a little nervous that we may not vibe well without having had that initial consultation. Seconds after saying hello, we all knew they would be a blast to work with and cute as can be.
These lovebirds have been together since high school and have the cutest energy with one another.
Our videographer Jose was there to hear their love story to use for their Engagement Love Story Video. A video that is a fun way to add an extra element to your engagement session and share on social media, wedding website and to have as a keepsake.
We are pretty lucky in Toledo to be a short drive from Chicago, a city where it seems many MWP couples live. They often relocate there after college and then come back to Toledo for their wedding. I made the drive to Chicago for Erica & Chris’s engagement session in November… and I was pretty nervous that those notorious Chicago chilly winds would make it a challenge for their engagement photos. Well Mother Nature was on our side!!! It was gorgeous and we were able to visit all of the places that the lovely couple had on their photo wishlist! Thank you Chris and Erica for inviting me out to your city, to meet your pup & all the fun facts that you’ve accumulated while living there!
The classic columns of the Toledo Museum of Art has made it the ‘go-to’ place for wedding photos for decades… and for this reason, I have avoided it. However, I am always up for challenging myself and wanted to look at this Toledo wonder with new eyes. Catie & Bryan woke up at the crack of dawn for their sunrise engagement session and we toured the lovely architecture of TMA. Toledo is lucky to host amazing buildings with incredible art inside and for us to be able to use them as a backdrop & sometimes foreground ;)
When I first met with Marissa & Sean they said they loved the juxtaposition of dressy attire & grungy Toledo, that their wedding colors were black & white. These were gold stars in my Mary Wyar Photography couples goal charts ;) (not a real thing.) After hearing more about their style & likes, I was looking forward to their engagement session even more. We chose the trendy Uptown District along Adams Street in Toledo which is the home to some of our city’s best murals. Their pup Joey (I wonder if he was named after Joe Guidice?) joined us around dusk and we enjoyed the last bits of summer daylight.
Their wedding next year will be at the iconic Rosary Cathedral and reception at a favourite of mine, Toledo Country Club… which is starting to feel like a second home.
Marissa + Sean, I am so very excited to be your photographer!!! I cannot wait for your big day next year!
